Evaluating the Microservice Architecture Style for Manufacturing Cell Controller Software

  • This study elaborates on the advantages of migrating legacy IT systems for manufacturing operations to a microservice architecture, which is an important step towards a platformbased ecosystem. Traditional architecture models for manufacturing operations from the literature are evaluated. The different models’ strengths are combined towards a common architecture for the factory of the future. Microservices are introduced as a new architectural style for manufacturing operations software.
